Quilt Prep for Quilting

Quilt top must be pressed on the back side, pressing the seam allowances to the darker fabric and then press once again on the front side.

Remove all loose threads as well as all lint, pet hairs, etc.!

Do not baste, tie, sew or partially quit the quilt top to batting and/or backing.

If you prewashed the fabrics in your quilt top, then you need to prewash the backing fabric.

Place a note on the quilt top that indicates the top of the quilt.

Do not embellish the quilt until after it has been quilted.

Square up your quilt top as well as the backing fabric and make sure your sides are straight.

If you plan to have a scalloped edge, it is helpful to leave the quilt top square until after quilting.

Backing and batting must be at least 8″ longer and wider than the quilt top.

Choose your backing fabric as carefully as what was taken to select the quilt top fabric.  An excellent choice is 100% cotton in a coordinating print to compliment your quilt top.  I strongly discourage bed sheets.  If you must piece together your backing fabric, make a 1/2″ horizontal seam (with selvage removed) pressed open.  There is no guarantee that the seam will be in the middle of quilt.  Also, If the backing is pieced off grain, there is a potential for the back seam to “wave” on the back.

Disclaimer

I am not able to quilt out piecing errors.  If the quilt top is not square or the borders are too full, you can expect pleats or tucks in the finished quit.  Quilting does not line up points or seams.

Also, I will do my very best in quilting your top, but neither I nor my machine is infallibe.

If you do not supply a backing at least 8 inches longer and 8 inches wider, there is a $15. charge for adding leaders to your backing so I can quilt it.

If you furnish backing and I have to sew it together, there is a $15 fee per sewing seam.

If I have to iron your top seams down, there is a $20 fee. (I do not charge for touching up the top if it has already been ironed.)

If I have to iron your backing, there is a $10 fee.
