Quilt Prep

Prepping Your Quilt Top

  1. Quilt top must be pressed on the back side, pressing the seam allowances to the darker fabric and then press once again on the front side.
  2. Remove all loose threads as well as all lint, pet hairs, etc.!
  3. Do not baste, tie, sew or partially quit the quilt top to batting and/or backing.
  4. If you prewashed the fabrics in your quilt top, then you need to prewash the backing fabric.
  5. Place a note on the quilt top that indicates the top of the quilt.
  6. Do not embellish the quilt until after it has been quilted.
  7. Square up your quilt top as well as the backing fabric and make sure your sides are straight.
  8. If you plan to have a scalloped edge, it is helpful to leave the quilt top square until after quilting.
  9. Backing and batting must be at least 8″ longer and wider than the quilt top.
  10. Choose your backing fabric as carefully as what was taken to select the quilt top fabric.  An excellent choice is 100% cotton in a coordinating print to compliment your quilt top.  We strongly discourage bed sheets.  If you must piece your backing fabric, make a 1/2″ horizontal seam (with selvage removed) pressed open.  There is no guarantee that the seam will be in the middle of quilt.  Also, If the backing is pieced off grain, there is a potential for the back seam to “wave” on the back.

Shipping and Handling

I welcome Mail/Internet Orders from anywhere in the Continental US.  When shipping your top and supplies to me, place any fabric/top in a plastic bag for shipping and add your Request/Order Form inside.  Call or email when you ship your quilt to let us know that your quilt top is on its way.

When I receive your quilt I will evaluate the services requested and a work order will be prepared.  A customer confirmation will be required to begin the services requested if different from your order form (ironing not done, quilt not squared, etc).

If the finished quilt is to be returned by mail, the actual cost of mailing and insurance will be charged.  Please be advised that the insurance value for shipping will be calculated at three(3) times the value of the quilting charge unless otherwise stated by the customer.

Payment

After completion of the quilt, I will find out shipping charges and will invoice you for quilting and shipping.  Payment is due in full before I ship your quilt back to you.

Disclaimer

I am not able to quilt out piecing errors.  If the quilt top is not square or the borders are too full, you can expect pleats or tucks in the finished quit.  Quilting does not line up points or seams.

Also, I will do my very best in quilting your top, but neither I nor my machine is infallibe.
